CENTER DIVIDE traces it origins back to dorm room jams in the early nineties at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Singer/guitar player Justin Wells, pianist Joey Muller, and bass player Todd Miller came together from three very different musical backgrounds. What emerged was a unique fusion of folk, pop, and jazzóa sound they liked so much they made a band out of it. Upon graduating, CENTER DIVIDE drove out West to Justinís hometown of San Francisco and began playing the bars and coffeehouses of the Bay Area. With drummer Ben Leinbach rounding out the sound, the band quickly garnered a devoted local following. CENTER DIVIDE has solidified its place in the Bay Area music scene with the release of its debut CD, Lovelock to Winnemucca. It is "a gold mine of good stories and songwriting" according to Jeanie Patterson, former owner of the Sweetwater in Mill Valley. Inspired by and thematically based on the bandís recent experience living in the West, the album traces both the geographic and emotional journey of a love-lost traveler on a lonely Nevada highway. |
